Dr. Otto Scharmer is a senior lecturer at MIT, and the founding chair of the Presencing Institute.

The following are extracts from an interview with Patricia Albere from Evolutionary Collective Conversations.

Otto Scharmer describes presencing  ”as a method that helps individuals and organizations access deeper sources of knowing and learning’ more reliably. In difficult situations rather than operating from the past, from what we know already it helps us to intentionally pay attention to our felt sense of the future we share with others, a future we know is possible and should be possible, and that unites us that connects us with all those other people before the connection is there, before we even exchange any words. It’s this tapping into a really tangible future possibility that probably millions of us experience early on in our lives.”

Presencing as a method supports the collective felt sense with practices, both consciousness practices, but also social practices in order to become better at it.

Scharmer describes presencing ’as a gift that we receive early on in life but don’t pay attention to. Presencing means paying attention to these early experiences.’

“After I realized how important and how distant also this learning from the emerging future is, I coined a word for that, which didn’t really exist, or not in that sense: presencing. It’s a blended word between sensing and emerging future possibility and presence, operating, bringing that possibility into the now, embodying that in the now. To me, what presencing is, is sensing and actualizing an emerging future possibility and embodying that.”

Building on Scharmer's work, Olen Gunnlaugson is offering an online course, MBA 506 Conversational Leadership with Meridian University in San Francisco.  The course delivers an in-depth, immersive ten week practitioner training in Deep Presencing and is a part of an upcoming online series of we-space trainings that will be offered to leaders, change makers and evolutionaries.
